We ministered on Sunday at New Beginnings Fellowship, a 70-member church in Hernando, Fla. Pastor Larry and his wife, Corinne, are relatively new to the Citrus County area. They traveled across the nation via RV as revivalists in small churches for 12 years. In 2009, they took a pastoral position at NBF.

When we entered the sanctuary, there was a Congo (DRC) flag on the stage. The church bought it with the intention of putting it up to represent that nation in their fellowship. This touched our hearts deeply.

“You don’t see that flag in many churches,” said Andrew.

Preaching at different fellowships has allowed us to get a glimpse of how God is working in the hearts of His people. If pastors decided to work together more, I think that they would see their not so different from one another. And although the culture of a church may be radically different. The same spirit is there—most of the time.

The church must not confuse culture with spirit: Culture is defined as the behaviors and beliefs characteristic of a particular social group. Spirit is defined as the nonphysical part; the seat of emotions and character; the soul.

It is our hope that the Church won’t wait until heaven to catch this reality.
